#002: Switching Careers at Nearly 50 Years Old:

Nellie Neeman is the author of the critically-acclaimed Jon Steadman Thriller Series. Her debut novel, Spree, was published in 2020. Duplicity, the fourth book in the series, launched earlier this summer.

Nellie grew up on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, tapping away on her mother’s typewriter. She attended the City University of New York where she earned a master's degree in speech pathology. In 2015, following a twenty-year career as an early interventionist, she packed her bags and moved to the greener and wider pastures of the Midwest where she pursues her writing passion full-time.

Her blog, Nellie’s Notes, is a running account of her writing journey, designed to support and encourage new indie authors. A panelist at this summer’s Killer Nashville Writer’s Conference, Nellie has been interviewed at Boston University and The Cincinnati JCC Book Series Event.

An avid traveler, swimmer, and chocolate connoisseur, Nellie uses her own adventures as inspiration for her stories. She resides in Cincinnati and Jerusalem with her husband and Lexi, the wacky Labradoodle, and is currently hard at work on her fifth Jon Steadman novel.

Here's Nellie's tips on how to make a big change:

-Have a goal and break it down into bite-size pieces to keep from becoming overwhelmed.

-Plan what you can in advance whether it’s a nest egg, an online course, or even a mental shift.

- Keep in mind that old saying, “Man plans and God laughs.” It’s hard but try to let go of the

control factor. When you expect to be thrown a curve ball, it’s easier to catch it.

- View a big change as an opportunity and an adventure. Pump yourself up for new and wonderful

experiences.

- Always remember, other people just like you have succeeded brilliantly and so can you.

Advice she’d give to someone who's scared to make a change in their lives:

- Be your own biggest fan. By that, I mean believe in yourself despite the occasional naysayer. Seek out

those who support your dream and ignore the rest. And, perhaps of greatest importance—remember that the road to success is built with perseverance! Keep going! You’ve got this!
