-Alexandra Elich-Burr
Alexandra Elich-Burr transitioned from TV news to the public relations field. Her career became her identity, but it was affecting her mental health. She talks about how scary it was to leave TV news and try something different. She's also created her own professional women's network group called "NetworkQueen." In today's episode, she talks about the importance of networking and tips on how to be successful at it.
Currently, Alexandra is the Chief Communications Officer of 2.0 Collective, a future-of-work SaaS company with a focus on career customization with the ultimate goal of democratizing career advancement. She also continues to be an on-camera host and journalist. Additionally, she is an account lead for a tech PR agency that includes well-known tech companies and unicorn startups.
Before that, she was a TV news anchor/reporter in Charlotte, North Carolina for about five years. Hosting her segment called “Hidden Gems of Charlotte” and leading investigations that resulted in policy change for the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. Before that, she was a multi-media journalist in South Bend, Indiana.
Frustrated by the lack of career resources for women, Alex started a women’s professional networking group called NetworkQueen which has grown to hundreds of members since its inception. NetworkQueen hosts casual networking events for women in every field and every stage of life—all ticket proceeds from the event go to a charity that helps survivors of domestic abuse and sexual assault.
Alex was awarded Top 30 Under 30 Future Leaders of Charlotte in 2020. In her free time, she enjoys exploring Charlotte and traveling with her husband, hiking with her dog, working out, and reading.
Alex's Favorite quote: "Happiness is a choice."
What Alex learned from her plot twist:
"Subtracting something from your life that no longer serves you isn’t a failure. It’s one of the bravest things you can do for your own personal growth. Try to block out the noise and listen to your gut."
